{"id":65215,"date":"2014-11-25T12:46:57","date_gmt":"2014-11-25T12:46:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/leitat.org\/blog\/leitat-at-the-2nd-international-ocean-research-conference-iorc\/"},"modified":"2025-02-11T13:05:53","modified_gmt":"2025-02-11T13:05:53","slug":"leitat-at-the-2nd-international-ocean-research-conference-iorc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/leitat.org\/en\/blog\/leitat-at-the-2nd-international-ocean-research-conference-iorc\/","title":{"rendered":"LEITAT at the 2nd International Ocean Research Conference (IORC)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>LEITAT attended the 2nd International Ocean Research Conference (IORC) in Barcelona from the 17th to the 21st of November, where it exhibited an informational poster on the project <strong>COMMON SENSE<\/strong>, which is coordinated by LEITAT.<\/p>\n<p>Members of the partnership also attended a number of workshops at the event, including \u201cEuropean marine policy and its implementation through projects for marine monitoring for blue growth,\u201d which was organised by CYRIC (Cyprus Research and Innovation Center).<\/p>\n<p>This workshop gathered together the four projects financed under the EC Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) topic \u201cInnovative multifunctional sensors for in-situ monitoring of marine environment and related maritime activities\u201d: <strong>SENSE OCEAN, SCHEMA, NEXOS<\/strong>, and <strong>COMMON SENSE<\/strong>; as well as other innovative projects such as <strong>MARIA BOX, BRAAVOO, ENVIGUARD, SEA-ON-A-CHIP<\/strong> and <strong>SMS<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The consortium was also represented at a parallel workshop on <i>\u201cAchievements and future research on micro-plastics in the marine environment\u201d<\/i> as well as at the <i>\u201cPresentation of the Group of Experts on the Scientific Aspects of Marine Environmental Protection (GESAMP) report in reference to microplastics\u201d<\/i>. The core research of <strong>COMMON SENSE<\/strong> includes the design, development, and integration of a cost-effective sensor for in-situ monitoring of microplastic fraction within marine litter.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, the consortium attended the workshop on <i>\u201cScientists sharing data: existing databases, improving access, data poor areas\u201d<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>To keep up to date on
