{"id":66137,"date":"2013-12-09T23:26:42","date_gmt":"2013-12-09T23:26:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/leitat.org\/blog\/interview-with-maire-geoghegan-quinn-eu-commissioner-for-research-innovation\/"},"modified":"2025-02-24T21:59:12","modified_gmt":"2025-02-24T21:59:12","slug":"interview-with-maire-geoghegan-quinn-eu-commissioner-for-research-innovation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/leitat.org\/en\/blog\/interview-with-maire-geoghegan-quinn-eu-commissioner-for-research-innovation\/","title":{"rendered":"Interview with Maire Geoghegan-Quinn, EU Commissioner for Research &#038; Innovation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cIt\u2019s all about simplification \u2013 radical simplification,\u201d said EU Commissioner for Research, Innovation and Science, M\u00e1ire Geoghegan-Quinn, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=IlCkkh-OcRY\">putting forward her vision<\/a> of how the \u20ac79 billion Horizon 2020 programme will chip away at the huge problems of our age, in ageing and chronic disease, energy supply and climate change, and sustainable and adequate food production \u2013 and why she expects to see willingness from industry to engage with academics in dealing with these challenges.<\/p>\n<p>A new Participant Portal will make it as easy as a Google search for researchers and businesses to find opportunities for participation, she said, while a reduced time to grant of eight months will help people get their money faster. \u201cAt the end of the day, that is what we want,\u201d Geoghegan-Quinn told Science|Business.<\/p>\n<p>Following the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sciencebusiness.net\/news\/76363\/Horizon-2020-set-for-11-December-kick-off\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">conclusion of negotiations<\/a> earlier this week, the first calls for Horizon 2020 funding streams will go live on December 11 and will run for three to four months.
