On 8 and 9 July 2025<\/strong>, the FUELS\u2011C consortium\u2014coordinated by Leitat\u2014gathered for its Month<\/strong>\u202f12 project meeting<\/strong> at FACSA facilities in Castell\u00f3 de la Plana. The two-day session included a thorough review of progress across all work packages, with all tasks confirmed to be on schedule and aligned with the project plan.<\/p>\n

Project Meeting Highlights:<\/strong><\/p>\n

The first day of the meeting focused on internal project updates. Dr. Eduard Borr\u00e0s<\/strong>, coordinator from Leitat, opened the session by highlighting the achievements made during the first year of implementation. Each partner presented the evolution of their respective tasks and results, emphasizing collaboration and technical synergy across the consortium.<\/p>\n

FACSA, as host and one of the core project partners, showcased its role in valorising sewage sludge and other waste streams through anaerobic digestion\u2014providing essential bio-based CO\u2082 and organic matter for the project\u2019s advanced fuel production technologies.<\/p>


<\/p>\n

Symposium: \u201cPathways to a Sustainable Energy Future\u201d:<\/strong><\/p>\n

On July 9<\/strong>, the consortium hosted its first public symposium titled \u201cPathways to a Sustainable Energy Future: Biofuel Innovations for Low\u2011Carbon Transport\u201d<\/em>. The event brought together academic experts, industry leaders, and public stakeholders to discuss biofuel production, fuel cell integration, and sustainable transport systems.<\/p>\n

A key highlight of the symposium was the expert talk by Dr. Daniele Molognoni<\/strong>, who shared valuable insights into cutting-edge technologies for fuel synthesis and integration into transport networks. His contribution stimulated engaging discussions on how to transition towards cleaner energy systems and the practical challenges in deploying novel fuels at scale.<\/p>\n

In addition to Molognoni’s presentation, the symposium featured:<\/p>\n

  • Three other technical talks<\/strong> addressing innovations in pyrolysis, fuel cells, and renewable feedstocks.<\/li>\n
  • A roundtable discussion<\/strong> moderated by Leitat, with participants including Dr. N\u00e9stor Aparicio Mar\u00edn<\/strong> (Fetech Centre), Prof. Francisco Fabregat Santiago<\/strong> (INAM-UJI), and Bernat Ib\u00e1\u00f1ez Oliver<\/strong> (Port Authority of Castell\u00f3n), focusing on the barriers and opportunities for the market adoption of sustainable fuels.<\/li>\n<\/ul>

    Looking Ahead:<\/strong><\/p>\n

    As FUELS\u2011C moves into its second year, efforts will intensify in scaling up and validating the developed technologies. The upcoming Innovation Workshops<\/strong>, led by Isle Utilities<\/strong>, will aim to involve early adopters and policy makers in the co-design of deployment strategies\u2014ensuring alignment with real-world needs and regulatory frameworks.<\/p>\n
