Para ello, las empresas desarrollan nuevos ingredientes activos, alimentos y suplementos alimenticios multifuncionales.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">En 2014, durante una reuni\u00f3n del Grupo de Trabajo de Alimentaci\u00f3n y Salud de la PTF4LS (Plataforma Tecnol\u00f3gica de Alimentos para la Vida de Espa\u00f1a), se plante\u00f3 la posibilidad de investigar sobre el s\u00edndrome metab\u00f3lico, calificado como uno de los principales problemas de salud p\u00fablica del siglo XXI por la Organizaci\u00f3n Mundial de la Salud (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.who.int\/es\/\">OMS<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00abAlgunas de las empresas alimentarias, biotecnol\u00f3gicas y centros de investigaci\u00f3n que participaron en el encuentro mostraron su inter\u00e9s hacia esta tem\u00e1tica y su disposici\u00f3n para desarrollar una investigaci\u00f3n conjunta con el prop\u00f3sito de incidir, por medio de la alimentaci\u00f3n, en los factores de riesgo asociados a este s\u00edndrome\u00bb, detalla Cristina D\u00edaz, Project Manager en Biosearch Life y Responsable de Gesti\u00f3n del Proyecto METASIN y del consorcio de empresas que lo integran. As\u00ed fue como comenz\u00f3 a gestarse esta iniciativa de I+D, que finalizar\u00e1 en diciembre de 2018.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Biosearch Life, compa\u00f1\u00eda especializada en investigaci\u00f3n, desarrollo, producci\u00f3n y comercializaci\u00f3n de ingredientes saludables de origen natural, es la entidad coordinadora del proyecto. En el consorcio METASIN participan tambi\u00e9n <a href=\"http:\/\/www.coosur.com\/\">Aceites del Sur-Coosur<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.algaenergy.es\/\">Algaenergy<\/a>, Creaciones Arom\u00e1ticas Industriales (CARINSA), <a href=\"http:\/\/feiraco.es\/\">Feiraco L\u00e1cteos<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fruselva.com\/\">Go Fruselva<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mahou.es\/\">Mahou<\/a> y V\u00e9rtice de Innovaci\u00f3n y Desarrollo de Alimentos (VIDA), sociedad perteneciente a <a href=\"https:\/\/gullon.es\/\">Galletas Gull\u00f3n<\/a>. En su conjunto, este proyecto supone una inversi\u00f3n cercana a los 10 millones de euros.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00abEl objetivo final de METASIN es poner en el mercado ingredientes activos y productos alimentarios que puedan suponer una alternativa natural a los tratamientos convencionales utilizados para el s\u00edndrome metab\u00f3lico\u00bb, explica D\u00edaz.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">El proyecto tiene una duraci\u00f3n de casi cuatro a\u00f1os y, a lo largo de todo ese tiempo, se busca poder desarrollar prototipos de nuevos ingredientes bioactivos (probi\u00f3ticos, algas, aceites, extractos vegetales o fracciones l\u00e1cteas) y alimentos (c\u00e1rnicos, cremas, bebidas, barritas de cereales, tortitas, l\u00e1cteos&#8230;) de car\u00e1cter multifuncional que puedan incidir en los factores de riesgo asociados.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00abActualmente, METASIN se encuentra en una fase muy avanzada, ya se han obtenido ingredientes y prototipos de alimentos que muestran su eficacia en algunos factores de riesgo\u00bb, explica Cristina D\u00edaz, quien a\u00f1ade que \u00abla fase final del proyecto est\u00e1 centrada en la validaci\u00f3n de estos ingredientes y\/o alimentos en modelos in vitro, animales y voluntarios humanos para asegurar cient\u00edficamente su seguridad y eficacia\u00bb.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00bfQu\u00e9 es el s\u00edndrome metab\u00f3lico?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">La American Heart Association considera s\u00edndrome metab\u00f3lico al conjunto de factores de riesgo que aumentan la probabilidad de tener diabetes, dislipemia (altos niveles de l\u00edpidos), enfermedades cardiovasculares o problemas cerebrales.
