Leitat\u2019s mission to manage technologies to transfer social, environmental, economic and industrial sustainable value for companies and entities cannot be dissociated from solar photovoltaics, which has rapidly moved into the mainstream of the energy system. Raw Materials<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/p>

Photovoltaic experts from Leitat carry out R&D to improve the performance, lifetime and sustainability of PV solutions. Our researchers, together with Leitat\u2019s ad hoc laboratories, support other research centers, companies and manufacturers by developing advanced PV technologies and manufacturing processes to facilitate the build-up of a large-scale PV manufacturing capacity in Europe. Our work covers most of the PV value chain, from raw materials up to tailored integrated applications<\/span>, <\/span>in conjunction with <\/span>the performance of <\/span>environmental and economic assessments (<\/span><\/span>APOLO<\/span><\/span><\/a>) along the whole value chain. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>

PV cells<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/p>

At greater length, Leitat contributes to the analysis of the key raw materials of the PV value chain as well as to the valorisation routes of PV end-of-life, e.g. silver and glass recovery (PV4INKS<\/a>). With respect to PV cells, Leitat\u2019s research is centered around the characterization and validation of PV cells together with performing stability tests and integrating low cost and flexible perovskite solar cells for PV integrated applications (APOLO<\/a> and GoPV<\/a>).<\/p>

\u00a0PV modules<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/p>

Fully committed to<\/span> the next stage of the PV value chain<\/span> –<\/span>PV modules<\/span>–<\/span>, <\/span>Leitat<\/span> has <\/span>gained valuable experience in <\/span>the formulation, application and characterization of<\/span> nano-enhanced paint<\/span>s<\/span> and<\/span> anti<\/span>–<\/span>soiling coatings (<\/span><\/span>APOLO<\/span><\/span><\/a>, <\/span><\/span>N<\/span>ewSkin<\/span><\/span><\/a>,<\/span> <\/span>PIRECO<\/span><\/span><\/a>)<\/span><\/span> through automated processes with low energy consumption<\/span>. <\/span>Analysis of the sustainability of the<\/span>se<\/span> coatings and <\/span>paints is also performed by <\/span>Leitat<\/span> along with a <\/span>complete study of <\/span>non-toxic<\/span> precursor solvents and additives (<\/span><\/span>APOLO<\/span><\/span><\/a>)<\/span> and <\/span>the implementation of the HPS approach for the development of green inks <\/span>(<\/span><\/span>APOLO<\/span><\/span><\/a>, <\/span><\/span>MatHero<\/span><\/span><\/a>)<\/span>.<\/span><\/span> Leitat<\/span> also<\/span> focuses on the testing, <\/span>characterization<\/span> and validation of PV modules (<\/span><\/span>COCPIT<\/span><\/span><\/a>, <\/span><\/span>APOLO<\/span><\/span><\/a>, <\/span><\/span>G<\/span>o<\/span>PV<\/span><\/span><\/a>, <\/span><\/span>MatHero<\/span><\/span><\/a>)<\/span>, <\/span>in addition<\/span> to<\/span> their <\/span>optical modelling <\/span>(<\/span><\/span>EMPOWER<\/span><\/span>) and <\/span>the <\/span>improvement of the f<\/span>lexible encapsulation of PV modules (<\/span><\/span>MatHero<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a>)<\/span><\/span>. <\/span><\/span>Not least of all<\/span>, <\/span>Leitat<\/span> has gained momentum in the PV manufactur<\/span>ing<\/span> sector <\/span>through <\/span>the manufacturing of metal structures with 3D fixation for PV modules (<\/span><\/span>GoPV<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a>) and <\/span>improved <\/span>manufacturing processes<\/span>, <\/span>such as<\/span> roll to roll printing and green solvent processes (<\/span><\/span>APOLO<\/span><\/span><\/a>)<\/span>,<\/span><\/span> OLED and thin film and organic PV<\/span> printing<\/span> (<\/span><\/span>OLEDSOLAR<\/span><\/span><\/a>)<\/span>, <\/span>PSC rigid minimodules <\/span>printing processes <\/span>(<\/span><\/span>CONNECT<\/span><\/span><\/a>), <\/span>the automatization of the manufacturing processes (<\/span><\/span>G<\/span>o<\/span>PV<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a>)<\/span> and the d<\/span>evelopment of virtual vertically integrated PV production lines, along with <\/span>d<\/span>ata integration, optimisation and machine learning algorithms for design improvement and O&M activities<\/span><\/span> (<\/span><\/span>EMPOWER<\/span><\/span>)<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Systems<\/strong><\/em><\/p>

Concerning the last stage of the PV value chain -systems-,<\/span> Leitat<\/span> devotes its <\/span>expertise<\/span> to <\/span>integrated PV applications<\/span>, <\/span>such as BIPV or <\/span>AgriPV<\/span>,<\/span> in collaboration with PV manufacturer<\/span>s<\/span> (<\/span><\/span>APOLO<\/span><\/span><\/a>)<\/span>. <\/span>Concerning BIPV, <\/span>Leitat<\/span> is equally engaged<\/span> both in terms of engineering and in architectural terms through the development of <\/span>constructive elements that generate photovoltaic electrical energy<\/span> (<\/span><\/span>Solar Brick<\/span><\/span><\/a>) and flexible, <\/span>durable<\/span> and competitive smart windows which meet the requirements of visual and thermal comfort, in addition to saving energy (<\/span><\/span>FLEXOCHROMICS<\/span><\/span>). <\/span>As regards to <\/span>AgriPV<\/span>, <\/span>Leitat<\/span> studies its impact of <\/span>optimizes<\/span> its operation (<\/span><\/span>AGRISOL<\/span><\/span><\/a>,<\/span> <\/span>Smart <\/span>PVwine<\/span><\/span><\/a>). <\/span>Last but not least<\/span>, <\/span>Leitat<\/span> is <\/span>involved<\/span> in developing <\/span>next-generation smart grid by integrating<\/span><\/span> PV<\/span> and<\/span> smart charging infrastructure into current smart-grid architecture concepts <\/span>(<\/span><\/span>PROGRESSUS<\/span><\/span><\/a>).<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>
