{"id":5055,"date":"2015-11-25T15:47:21","date_gmt":"2015-11-25T14:47:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dev-leitat-projects-blog.pantheonsite.io\/?p=5055"},"modified":"2025-02-11T13:02:26","modified_gmt":"2025-02-11T13:02:26","slug":"working-group-marine-litter","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/leitat.org\/es\/blog\/working-group-marine-litter\/","title":{"rendered":"Working Group on Marine Litter in Barcelona: Create a network"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">On 16 October 2015, 40 experts on Marine Litter participated in a workshop organized by the Waste Agency of Catalonia, with the following objectives:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li>Present the work every specialist is doing on the subject in Catalonia, Spain and Europe.<\/li>\n<li>Knowing the weaknesses and possible solutions to the problem of marine litter in order to provide solutions to the problem in a wider consensus and effectively as possible, taking advantage of existing resources.<\/li>\n<li>Create a network of experts and organizations that serve as a space for experts to exchange knowledge and develop projects on marine litter.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Marine litter is <span id=\"result_box\" class=\"\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"hps\">is defined as<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">junk<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">or<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">marine waste<\/span>, <span class=\"hps\">any<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">solid<\/span>, regardless of <span class=\"hps\">size<\/span>, <span class=\"hps\">and<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">persistent<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">manufactured<\/span> <span class=\"hps atn\">from non-<\/span>natural, <span class=\"hps\">which has been<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">rejected,<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">abandoned<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">or<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">deposited<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">in<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">marine environments<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">and \/ or<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">coastal<\/span>. <span class=\"hps\">This definition<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">includes<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">those<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">objects<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">originating from<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">human activities<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">that reach the<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">marine environment<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">through<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">rivers,<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">sewage systems<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">and<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">wastewater<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">or<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">pushed<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">by wind<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">and<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">waves<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">from the<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">terrestrial zone<\/span>. <span class=\"hps\">An estimated<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">80% of<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">marine waste<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">comes from<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">land<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">and 20%<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">of<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">maritime activities<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">More information about this working group and working documents here and information about marine litter here.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On 16 October 2015, 40 experts on Marine Litter participated in a workshop organized by the Waste Agency of Catalonia, with the following objectives: Present the work every specialist is doing on the subject in Catalonia, Spain and Europe.
