Its membership counts at present\u00c2\u00a047 members ranging from large and small commercial organisations to national institutes and universities.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">EARPA is\u00c2\u00a0the platform of automotive researchers and is actively contributing to the European Research Area and the\u00c2\u00a0<strong>future EU RTD funding programmes<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">EARPA works in close\u00c2\u00a0<strong>cooperation<\/strong>\u00c2\u00a0with the automotive industry, the automotive suppliers, the oil industry as well as the European Institutions and the EU Member States.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">EARPA is\u00c2\u00a0<strong>independent<\/strong>\u00c2\u00a0from any external body or institute and is\u00c2\u00a0only funded by its members\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 fees and is governed by an Executive\u00c2\u00a0Board and a General Assembly.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Before the creation of EARPA in 2002 there was not any kind of association of independent R&amp;D organisations in the automotive sector. Accordingly, under the lead of AVL, FEV, IDIADA, IFP, Ricardo and TNO, the creation of EARPA was announced in November 2001 (EUCAR conference) and the legal process was set in motion.
