On 16th–17th June, the BIOMETHAVERSE consortium gathered in Kalmar, Sweden, for the project’s 8th General Assembly, bringing partners together to review progress, exchange knowledge and coordinate the next steps towards developing innovative solutions for renewable methane production across Europe.
The first day included a visit to the More Biogas plant in Kalmar, where consortium members explored the progress of the Swedish demonstration site. During the visit, partners reviewed the latest developments in the Trickle Bed Reactor (TBR) biological methanation technology. Following its successful application using syngas at the Höganäs demonstration site, the technology is now being deployed with biogas generated through anaerobic digestion, enabling increased renewable methane production through the addition of hydrogen.
The second day focused on the project’s five demonstration pilots, with each site presenting its latest achievements, technical progress and the challenges encountered during implementation. These discussions provided an opportunity to exchange lessons learned, identify synergies between the different demonstration activities and define the next actions to further advance BIOMETHAVERSE’s innovative biomethane production pathways.
Beyond the technical sessions, the General Assembly reinforced collaboration among consortium partners and strengthened the project’s cooperative network. The meeting concluded with a symbolic journey aboard a biogas-powered bus, highlighting the sustainable energy solutions that lie at the heart of the BIOMETHAVERSE project.
By combining innovative technologies and collaborative research, BIOMETHAVERSE continues to contribute to the development of renewable methane as a key solution for Europe’s transition towards a more sustainable and circular energy system.
