On 19–20 June 2025, the CROP-SAFE consortium convened in Sarpsborg, Norway, for the project’s official Kick-off Meeting. Coordinated by the University of Alicante, the consortium unites 14 partners from across the European Union and the UK.
CROP-SAFE’s mission is to develop an integrated suite of tools for the effective and sustainable management of nematode and insect pests threatening key European crops, including potatoes, tomatoes, and bananas.
The two-day event, hosted by Borregaard, opened with presentations on the project’s main technical Work Packages, covering process development and optimisation for bioactive materials, as well as their delivery systems and formulations. The second day was dedicated to transversal Work Packages that will be active throughout the project’s duration.
Within CROP-SAFE, Leitat plays a pivotal role, leading the activities related to safety and sustainability-by-design for both the bioactive compounds and the formulation materials under development.
The meeting concluded with a guided tour of Borregaard’s biorefinery pilot plant and other facilities, offering participants valuable insights into the company’s cutting-edge processes.
