First consortium meeting of Genesis Project in Terrassa

On the 8th of June, the consortium of the Genesis project met for the first time after the kickoff meeting, which took place 6 months earlier. The event was hosted at Leitat’s headquarters in Terrassa (Barcelona). During the meeting, partners discussed the various tasks initiated since the project’s launch and explored ways to improve work organization to achieve the expected results. The first communication materials were also presented, which aim to assist the consortium in their daily activities.

GENESIS focuses on the development and upscaling of some of the most promising materials for CO2 capture, demonstrating their performance, durability, and reliability in industrial environments. The materials being developed include IPOSS (polyPOSSimide hybrid organic-inorganic) and MOF (Metal-organic framework) membrane systems, which have shown great potential for CO2 capture.

The project objectives are:

  1. Develop Mixed Matrix membranes that capture at least 90% of CO2
  2. Demonstrate CO2 capture systems in the Cement and Steel industries
  3. Test membrane systems in pre-combustion and post-combustion applications
  4. Achieve CO2 recovery at a cost of €15/MWh
