UpSurge project reaches M30 milestone with meeting at the University of Passau, Germany

The UpSurge project consortium, composed of 23 partners, gathered for its 30-month meeting on 21–22 February 2024 at the University of Passau, in Germany.

The sessions focused on reviewing the progress of all work packages and aligning next steps. Partners presented updates on the implementation of nature-based solutions (NBS) in the five demo cities, highlighting current interventions and the deployment of sensor systems for environmental monitoring. The meeting also showcased progress in ecosystem service modelling, air quality assessment, and the development of mobile applications aimed at boosting citizen engagement.

A special focus was placed on the EU Regenerative Urban Lighthouse, clarifying the tools and services available to support cities in their regenerative transition. City partners shared early experiences from their Place Labs, encouraging rich discussions on local implementation strategies. The meeting ended with a session dedicated to dissemination activities and how to further enhance the project’s impact.

At the meeting, Leitat presented updates on the overall assessment of nature-based solutions, particularly the analysis of their performance and effectiveness in urban environments. Within the regenerative assessment work package, Leitat contributed by coordinating activities and integrating results from various partners to ensure a consistent and robust evaluation approach.

Beyond the working sessions, partners enjoyed an informal networking dinner, strengthening connections across the consortium.
