Leitat is proud to announce the official launch of RESTORE, an ambitious Research and Innovation Action (RIA) funded by the European Union under the Horizon Europe programme, with Leitat as the coordinating entity. Last week, the project consortium gathered in Barcelona for the kick-off meeting, marking the start of an initiative set to transform battery recycling in Europe.
What is RESTORE?
RESTORE aims to optimise the battery recycling process through innovative technologies that enable:
Automated sorting and safe pre-processing of end-of-life lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) from both electric vehicles (EVs) and domestic use.
New smart dismantling and separation technologies to maximise the recovery of high-purity materials.
Sustainable and cost-effective processes, aligned with the Battery Directive and the Critical Raw Materials Act (CRMA).
A Strong Consortium for a Sustainable Future
The RESTORE project brings together 20 partners from 7 countries, combining the expertise of leading research centres and innovative battery industry players such as Northvolt Revolt AB, Solvay Specialty Polymers Italy, Fraunhofer, among others. This strategic collaboration ensures a comprehensive approach that will enable the European battery recycling sector to meet the objectives set by EU regulations.
