Leitat participates in Biospain 2026 to drive innovation in biotechnology

Leitat will participate in Biospain 2026, one of Europe’s leading events for the biotechnology industry, taking place from 29 September to 1 October at the Bilbao Exhibition Centre (BEC). Leitat will be present at stand 085, Hall 2, to showcase its applied research and technological development capabilities to companies and stakeholders across the biotech and pharmaceutical ecosystem.

Biospain 2026, organised by AseBio in collaboration with the Provincial Council of Bizkaia, the Basque Government and Basque Health Cluster, will bring together companies, research centres, investors and other sector stakeholders to address the main challenges and opportunities in biotechnology, with a particular focus on areas such as healthcare, bioeconomy, policy and funding.

 

Applied research serving biotechnology and the pharmaceutical industry

As an Applied Research & Technological Center, Leitat works with biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies to address challenges related to the development of new therapeutic and diagnostic solutions in areas such as oncology, inflammation, autoimmune diseases and rare diseases.

In the therapeutic field, Leitat has a preclinical drug development platform that integrates advanced capabilities in antibody generation and engineering, drug discovery support and ADME-Tox studies. This platform is complemented by in vitro, ex vivo and in vivo models, as well as organoids and organ-on-chip systems, which enable the modelling of tissues and pathological microenvironments with a high degree of precision. Together, these capabilities provide a flexible technological offering adapted to the specific needs of each project, aimed at accelerating and optimising the development of new therapeutic candidates.

In the field of diagnostics, Leitat develops antibodies as technological tools for different MedTech platforms and detection systems, and validates biomarker signatures with diagnostic and predictive value in both human and animal health. These capabilities enable the identification of molecules of high clinical interest and the development of high-value solutions tailored to the needs of each project.

In this context, Leitat will present its One-Stop Shop for Antibodies at BIOSPAIN, a proposal designed to facilitate the development of new antibody-based projects in therapy and diagnostics.

 

ISO 13485: quality and rigour for medical device development

Leitat’s participation in Biospain follows an important recognition of its capabilities in the field of medical technology: obtaining the UNE-EN ISO 13485:2018 certification, awarded by AENOR.

This international standard establishes the requirements for a quality management system applied to medical devices and related services. In Leitat’s case, the certification covers the design and development of four types of products and solutions for third parties, including electromedical equipment for diagnosis and therapeutic monitoring, diagnostic support software for in vitro diagnostic devices, instruments developed through additive manufacturing and 3D printing, and bioreceptors for in vitro diagnostics.

The certification provides guarantees of quality, traceability and regulatory rigour, strengthening Leitat’s ability to support its clients throughout different stages of the development of new medical solutions, from R&D to prototyping and industrialisation.

 

A meeting point for new collaboration opportunities

Participation in Biospain 2026 will allow Leitat to connect with companies, research centres, investors and other stakeholders across the biotech ecosystem, while exploring new opportunities for collaboration and technological development.

During the event, Marc Masa, Jose Luis Hernández and Alexis Kuhbacher will be part of the Leitat team in Bilbao, showcasing the centre’s capabilities and learning about new projects and technological challenges.
