Leitat to showcase its applied bioengineering capabilities at MicroTAS 2026

Leitat will participate in MicroTAS 2026, the international conference on miniaturized systems for chemistry and life sciences, taking place from 18 to 22 October at the Granada Conference & Exhibition Centre in Spain.

The event brings together researchers, universities, technology centers, companies and startups working across microfluidics, lab-on-a-chip, biosensors, microphysiological systems, organ-on-chip, organoids and other enabling technologies for the life sciences. With around 1,000–1,300 attendees and five days of technical sessions, workshops and scientific posters, MicroTAS provides an international meeting point for scientific and technological developments in the field.

Leitat will be present at Booth 9, where its team will showcase its approach to connecting scientific development with real-world applications and explore new opportunities for technological collaboration.

Bridging the gap between science and industry

MicroTAS brings together a highly specialised ecosystem, from research organisations and universities to technology providers and deep-tech startups. While these actors contribute to advances in microfluidics and related technologies, moving from scientific development to validated and scalable applications can require additional technological development and integration.

In this context, Leitat positions itself as an Applied Bioengineering Partner, connecting science and industry and supporting the development of technologies from concept and validation to scale-up and application.

Microphysiological systems and organ-on-chip technologies

One of the areas highlighted during MicroTAS 2026 will be Leitat’s work in microphysiological systems and organ-on-chip technologies.

These platforms can contribute to the development of more physiologically relevant in vitro models, while advances in microfluidics and system integration can help address challenges related to scalability, reproducibility and experimental throughput.

As part of the scientific programme, Leitat researchers Pooya Azizian and Ester Planas-Rigol will deliver two oral presentations within the Microphysiological Systems, Organ-on-Chip and Organoids sessions.

On Tuesday at 12:30, Ester Planas-Rigol will present “Liver-on-a-Chip with Biomimetic Portal Circulation: Integration of Bioprinting and Microfluidics” during the session “Microphysiological Systems, Organ-on-Chip and Organoids III: Tumor Models and Precision Medicine”. The presentation will highlight the integration of bioprinting and microfluidics to develop advanced liver-on-a-chip models.

On Wednesday at 12:20, Pooya Azizian will present “Bridging Throughput and Physiological Relevance in Organ-on-a-Chip” during the session “Microphysiological Systems, Organ-on-Chip and Organoids V: Engineering Tissue Microenvironments”. The presentation will address the balance between physiological relevance and throughput in organ-on-a-chip technologies.

Leitat will also attend MicroTAS 2026 with four accepted abstracts, providing an additional opportunity to share its research and technological developments with researchers and industry professionals attending the conference.

From technology development to real-world application

Beyond showcasing individual technologies, Leitat’s participation in MicroTAS 2026 aims to identify new collaboration opportunities, relevant technological trends and potential applications in microfluidics and related fields. These objectives are aligned with Leitat’s broader role as a technological partner connecting research and industry.
