BIOINSOUTH project kicks off in Naples to boost sustainable bioeconomy in Southern Europe

The BioINSouth project officially launched with a dynamic two-day kick-off meeting held on 17–18 June at the University of Naples Federico II.

The event brought together the 15 project partners, stakeholders, and international advisors to align on objectives and build momentum.

Day one focused on introducing the project, highlighting its mission to support decision-makers in integrating ecological limits into bioeconomy strategies, and showcasing the role of regional hubs in fostering collaboration among policymakers, SMEs, and civil society.

Day two was dedicated to discussing the management plan and work packages, outlining a roadmap for developing tools, frameworks, and policy guidelines to drive innovation and sustainability in bio-based systems.

During the meeting, Leitat presented its approach for identifying best practices and regional opportunities for bio-based industries. Leitat will develop tools and methodologies to evaluate and benchmark sustainable and efficient bio-based processes, considering regional factors like feedstock availability, water use, and energy efficiency. This will be supported by literature reviews and interviews with industry stakeholders, contributing to a roadmap for replicable models in Southern Europe and the Mediterranean.

The meeting concluded with clear next steps and a shared commitment to making BioINSouth a success.

A social dinner was held on June 17th at La Bersagliera, strengthening bonds among partners in a relaxed setting.
