VaMPIRE consortium meets in Rome to keep track of the scientific and clinical advances of the project

The consortium of the VaMPiRE project (Validation of α-synuclein Modifications in Parkinson’s disorder Evolution) met in Rome to review the scientific and clinical progress achieved so far and define the next steps in the development of new diagnostic tools for Parkinson’s disease.

Representing Leitat Technological Center, Ester Planas Rigol and Elena Guerrero San Vicente took part in the meeting, sharing the progress made by Leitat in the development of a Point-of-Care (PoC) device aimed at supporting the diagnosis and detection of Parkinson’s disease.

Towards earlier and more accessible diagnosis

The VaMPiRE project aims to develop and validate an innovative in vitro diagnostic (IVD) test capable of detecting Parkinson’s disease at earlier stages, while also contributing to prognosis and the monitoring of disease progression.

The project focuses on the validation of α-synuclein modifications as potential biomarkers associated with the evolution of Parkinson’s disease. By combining scientific, clinical and technological expertise, the consortium seeks to advance diagnostic solutions that can contribute to more timely and effective patient management.

Within the project, Leitat contributes to the development of a Point-of-Care diagnostic platform, bringing its expertise in bioengineering, sensor development, and the design and prototyping of diagnostic devices. Through this contribution, Leitat helps bridge the gap between scientific research and technological solutions with potential clinical applications, supporting the advancement of earlier and more accessible diagnosis.

The VaMPiRE project (Project Nº 101156370) is funded by the European Health and Digital Executive Agency (HaDEA).
