- The agreement between the technological centre and the Foundation will promote applied research and technology transfer to companies in the region.
The technological centre Leitat and the Foundation University of Girona Research and Innovation Park have formalised a strategic collaboration framework agreement to promote applied research, business innovation, and technology transfer in the region. The signing, which took place on Friday, October 24th, in Girona, establishes a general cooperation framework to foster innovation and strengthen connections between the business sector and knowledge agents in the area, enabling the development of R&D projects with high industrial, economic, and social impact.
The agreement aims to facilitate connections between companies and research centres, promote access to competitive funding, and drive collaborative innovation. Through this partnership, Leitat will make available to the industrial network of Girona its expertise in fields such as industrial sustainability, health, digitalisation, new materials, sustainable mobility, and energy.
The Park provides an attractive physical and conceptual environment for research groups, units, centres, organisations, and companies, so that coexistence and interaction in this space generate synergies and consolidate an innovative and entrepreneurial system that drives growth.
Both entities also plan to organise technical workshops and events, as well as support startups, spin-offs, and innovative business projects emerging from the region. In addition, the agreement establishes the creation of a monitoring committee made up of representatives from both institutions, responsible for identifying new collaboration opportunities and assessing the impact of joint actions.
According to Jordi Cabrafiga, General Director of Leitat, “this agreement represents a clear commitment to strengthen Leitat’s role as a strategic partner for companies throughout the territory. Girona has an industrial network with great potential and an innovative spirit, and this collaboration will allow us to accelerate technology transfer, promote transformative projects, and contribute to a more competitive, sustainable, and value-added economy.”
This collaboration is part of the strategy that Leitat is implementing in the Girona region to strengthen its territorial presence and foster new technological alliances with companies and knowledge and innovation agents in the area, an initiative driven by Roger Torrent, Leitat’s institutional representative in Girona.
The signing was complemented by a meeting between the management teams of both institutions to explore joint work lines aimed at promoting projects with an impact on the region.
