Industria Química magazine has published a feature on Leitat’s work to develop new automation solutions for safer and more efficient electric vehicle battery recycling. The article focuses on the technologies developed by the centre to address some of the main challenges associated with electric mobility.
The expansion of electric vehicles is increasing demand for batteries made from strategic materials such as lithium, nickel, cobalt, manganese and graphite. In this context, battery recycling and reuse are becoming increasingly important to support the recovery of these materials and move towards more circular models.
The feature highlights Leitat’s work on semi-automated solutions for battery disassembly, combining robotics with technologies such as machine vision, force control, additive manufacturing and artificial intelligence. It also addresses the importance of safety in battery handling and Leitat’s participation in European projects such as ALBATROSS, BATRAW and RESTORE, which focus on different areas of the battery recycling value chain.
Leitat is also exploring new solutions based on teleoperation, mixed reality and 5G technologies to facilitate interaction between people and robotic systems in operations that require human assistance, contributing to the development of new models linked to Industry 5.0.
