LUPYPLAST

Synthesis of new lubricants and carbon-modified materials from the pyrolysis of plastic waste.

Abstract:

LUPYPLAST aims to develop an efficient and innovative technological solution to valorize industrial plastic waste, converting it into high-value products such as lubricants and nanocarbons, in line with the European Strategy for Plastics in a Circular Economy.

The project is based on in situ thermal and catalytic pyrolysis, optimized according to various parameters, to maximize the production of liquid fractions (light oils) and solid fractions (char). The oils will be chemically modified to produce base lubricants, while the char will be transformed into doped porous nanocarbons, useful as catalysts and electrode components in H₂ electrolyzers.

The new lubricants will replace fossil mineral oils, reducing environmental impact and promoting the circular economy. A comprehensive sustainability assessment (environmental, social, and economic impact) will be included.
