RHIZONEM

New strategies for nematode biocontrol using rhizospheric microorganisms (RhizoNem)

Abstract:

The RhizoNem project aims to develop sustainable solutions for the control of plant-parasitic nematodes through the use of soil microorganisms with nematicidal activity.

First, the consortium is working on the isolation and characterization of microorganisms capable of controlling nematodes, ensuring a low environmental impact. This biological approach offers an effective and safer alternative to traditional chemical products.

Next, the optimal growth and metabolic conditions of these microorganisms are studied to facilitate their production at an industrial scale. The technical knowledge acquired will enable the scaling of the solutions and their adaptation to different crops and field conditions.

Finally, a minimum viable product (MVP) is being developed and will be validated under real conditions, ensuring its effectiveness and stability. The project aims to reach TRL 6, with a robust prototype ready for industrialization and commercialization.

RhizoNem fully aligns with the objectives of the call, combining scientific innovation, sustainability, and practical applicability in the agri-food sector.
