SMART PV-WINE

Advanced PV system with intelligent management for improving wine production.

Abstract:

Smart PV-Wine develops an innovative agrivoltaic (AgriPV) system that combines photovoltaic generation with agricultural cultivation, specifically in vineyards, to make better use of land and increase rural profitability. The project aims to optimize the design of photovoltaic systems adapted to the needs of the plants through solar modules with 3D lenses, spectral diffusers, and solar trackers, enabling intelligent management of light between electricity generation and crop growth.

The system will be applied in vineyards at the University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM), a shade-sensitive species representative of agricultural areas affected by climate change. It will be validated both in the laboratory and in a real pilot installation, and will be integrated into a digital twin that will allow simulation and prediction of agricultural and energy performance.

Smart PV-Wine also considers environmental and economic impact, including the reduction of evapotranspiration through intelligent shading, life cycle analysis, component circularity, and cost assessment (CAPEX/OPEX). Additionally, it will incorporate social and training activities to promote the adoption of the technology.
