The Waste4Soil project, formed by 27 partners, held its M17 consortium meeting on 16–17 October 2024 in Kajaszo, Central Transdanubia, Hungary.
The two-day event focused on assessing the project’s progress and coordinating the upcoming actions, particularly those related to the development of local, bio-based soil improvers derived from food processing residues.
Day one included strategic updates and operational planning across several work areas, such as:
- tools to foster circular practices in regional contexts,
- co-cration within the Living Labs,
- optimization of logistics and nutrients recovery chains, and
- formulation of soil improvers adapted to local crop and soil conditions.
Partners also reviewed initial sustainability assessments, business model preparations, and standardization pathways.
On day two, participants visited the Hungarian Living Lab and engaged in a peer-coaching session, promoting exchange of experiences and joint problem-solving across technical and implementation topics.
The meeting emphasized the role of shared learning, stakeholder engagement, and cross-country coordination as the project transitions into the Living Lab experimentation phase.
During the event, Leitat shared progress from the Spanish Living Lab, presenting initial results on the valorisation of biogas digestate from wine and olive residues. They introduced the anaerobic digestion + submerged bioelectrochemical system (AD-BES) approach. The reactor is now inoculated and in operation phase.
The meeting concluded with a visit to the host facilities and a team dinner at Biofarm, strengthening bonds between the consortium partners.
