Leitat strengthens its position as a strategic industry partner with innovative lubricant research at Lubricant Expo Europe

Against an industrial backdrop of growing demand for more sustainable and efficient products, Leitat will showcase its advanced tribology and fluid engineering capabilities at Lubricant Expo Europe 2026, offering applied R&D solutions for the development of more sustainable, high-performance lubricants.

At this leading industry event, taking place in Düsseldorf, Germany, from 15 to 17 September, Leitat strengthens its position as a strategic partner by putting its expertise at the service of industrial companies to help them turn technical challenges into effective solutions. These solutions aim to accelerate innovation processes and deliver products that improve technical, safety and efficiency standards.

Technology innovation applied to industrial challenges

From its stand (789), located in Hall 1, Leitat will showcase selected examples of technologies designed to address specific challenges facing industry. These innovations demonstrate the technology centre’s ability to develop, optimise and validate advanced lubrication and thermal management solutions, from formulation through to real-world industrial implementation:

  • CoolPrint EV: Addresses thermal management and electrical conductivity limitations in electric vehicle batteries. Through a cooling system printed directly onto the cells, the technology achieves improved heat dissipation, enhancing battery reliability, safety and efficiency.
  • Innovative cooling fluids: Developed to address the inefficiency of conventional fluids in PEM fuel cells. These formulations improve heat transfer and functional performance, which are key to the deployment of hydrogen-based mobility technologies.
  • Converting plastic waste into lubricants: A circular economy project that transforms plastic waste from pyrolysis into new high-value base oils, capable of matching or exceeding the performance of conventional mineral lubricants while reducing environmental impact.
  • Bio-based offshore grease: A sustainable alternative to lithium-based lubricants for demanding marine environments. Made from vegetable oils and calcium-based thickeners, it provides excellent water resistance and high structural stability under severe conditions.

Active participation in the conference programme

Leitat’s contribution to this international event will also include the participation of its experts in the official conference programme. Lucio Grether, Business Development Manager at Leitat, will moderate the session “Defence as an Emerging Lubricant Market” (16 September, 13:45), exploring the role of the defence sector as an emerging market for lubricants.

On the same day, Laura Batlle, Principal Researcher in Advanced Industrial Fluids at Leitat, will moderate two sessions. The first (14:35), “Power Generation and Stationary Gas Engines: Lubricant Requirements in a Changing Energy Landscape”, will focus on specific lubrication requirements for power generation and stationary gas engines in a rapidly changing energy landscape. The second (14:55), “From Factory Floor to Human Spaces: Tribological Challenges in Lubricating Humanoid Robots”, will explore the tribological challenges involved in lubricating humanoid robots, from industrial environments to their integration into spaces occupied by people.
