On July 1st and 2nd, 2025, the BATRAW consortium—comprising 17 leading technological and industrial partners in battery recycling across Europe—gathered at the ORANO facilities in Bessines-sur-Gartempe, France, to assess the project’s progress and plan the next stages of development.
This meeting marked a significant milestone as the project enters month 38 of its 48-month timeline, transitioning from development to demonstration. The sessions provided a comprehensive overview of recent advances and defined the strategic steps needed to further strengthen the end-of-life battery recycling value chain.
The agenda opened with presentations from the project coordination team, including key milestone updates. Participants then reviewed the technical progress in several critical areas: battery dismantling, mechanical pre-treatment, and advanced hydrometallurgical recovery. One of the major highlights was the demonstration of the automated disassembly chain, now featuring a battery characterisation station, an identification and module disassembly system, and a laser cell for cover opening and safe deactivation.
A pivotal moment of the meeting was the guided visit to the pilot facilities developed under the BATRAW project: the pre-treatment and deactivation line for electric vehicle (EV) batteries, and the hydrometallurgical recycling plant. These visits offered a firsthand view of how the project’s innovations are being translated into real-world applications.
Looking ahead, the consortium will focus on consolidating these achievements in preparation for a major event scheduled for November 2025, where the project’s most impactful results will be showcased to stakeholders and the broader scientific and industrial community.
