ILIAD consortium meets in Porto for its 4th Anual General Assembly

The ILIAD consortium, formed by 56 partners, gathered in Porto, Portugal on 19–20 November 2024 for its fourth Annual General Assembly. Hosted at the INESC TEC offices and Estádio do Dragão, the meeting marked a key moment to assess the final development stages of the ILIAD Digital Twin of the Ocean.

The first day focused on live demonstrations of more than 20 pilot applications. These included solutions for aquaculture, environmental monitoring, oil spill tracking, sediment transport, marine biodiversity, cultural heritage, renewable energy, and port safety. Each pilot showcased how ILIAD components are being integrated, with users interacting directly with the tools to provide feedback and detect remaining technical challenges.

On the second day, technical discussions addressed progress in data acquisition, sensor integration, AI-powered analytics, semantic modeling, and visualization. Special attention was given to interoperability with other ocean data platforms. The agenda also covered impact strategies around policy engagement, technology transfer, capacity building, and communication, all crucial for launching ILIAD’s digital services via its Marketplace.

Leitat presented its latest developments in novel sensing technologies, particularly the construction, upgrading, and deployment of advanced sensors that will boost real-time ocean data capture within the ILIAD ecosystem.

Outside of the formal sessions, participants enjoyed social moments together, including a group dinner in Porto.
