On April 1st and 2nd, 2025, the GeoS-TECHIS European project consortium held its 6-month follow-up meeting in Pontevedra, Spain. The event was an opportunity to review the work done so far and coordinate the next steps of the project.
Four colleagues from Leitat took part in the meeting to present their contributions within Work Package 6 (WP6). Laura Batlle and Gabriela Benalcázar shared updates on the development of Heat Transfer Fluids (HTF) for their use in Thermal Energy Storage (TES) systems. Eloy Miñano and Daniel Checa presented their work on assessing the environmental and social impacts of the project.
As part of the meeting, the consortium visited the facilities of KAUMAN, a Galician partner of the project where the results will be integrated. Galicia was chosen as the demo-site location due to its strong geothermal potential.
GeoS-TECHIS (Geothermal Source Thermal Energy for Cooling and Heating in Industries) is a research initiative focused on improving geothermal energy integration into industrial heating and cooling systems. The project explores the use of medium-depth geothermal resources combined with heat pump technologies to reduce carbon emissions in industrial applications. The consortium is composed of ITG, Fraunhofer, SINTEF, Leitat, Clausius, Kauman, AITOWN, University of Ljubljana and Fortrino.
