On 30 June and 1 July 2026, the partners of the AID4SME project gathered in Ghent, Belgium, for the project’s 18-month Review Meeting. The meeting provided an opportunity to assess the progress achieved so far, review the project’s main developments and align the next steps towards accelerating the adoption of trustworthy artificial intelligence solutions for European SMEs.
One of the highlights of the meeting was the networking event held in Kortrijk with the SMEs selected through the project’s first Open Call. The event brought together innovators, researchers and industry stakeholders to exchange experiences, showcase AI-driven pilot projects and explore future collaboration opportunities. Participants also visited state-of-the-art research facilities and discussed the potential of AI to address industrial challenges across different sectors.
During the meeting, Leitat presented two industrial use cases that will support the development and validation of AI-based solutions within the project.
The first challenge focuses on Predictive Maintenance for Energy Infrastructure, leveraging artificial intelligence to analyse thermal, hyperspectral and 3D imaging data in order to detect asset degradation and enable smarter maintenance strategies.
The second challenge addresses Smart EV Battery Disassembly, combining artificial intelligence, computer vision and robotics to improve the safe and efficient dismantling and recycling of end-of-life electric vehicle batteries.
The meeting reinforced the consortium’s commitment to fostering collaboration, driving industrial innovation and supporting European SMEs in adopting advanced AI technologies. As the project moves into its next phase, partners will continue working together to validate and demonstrate AI solutions with real industrial impact.
