The ZeroF consortium, composed of 12 partners, gathered on 19–20 March 2024 at the LIST facilities in Luxembourg for its M18 General Assembly meeting.
The two-day meeting focused on advancing ZeroF’s mission to replace PFAS compounds in packaging and textiles with safe and sustainable alternatives. Partners shared updates on the development of cellulose-based coatings for packaging that enhance oil and grease resistance, as well as silane-based hybrids for textiles offering improved water and oil repellency.
Key discussions included progress in bio-based coating formulations, aiming to strike a balance between functionality and cost-effectiveness. The consortium also explored the use of computational modeling to optimize toxicology assessments and support regulatory compliance, reducing dependency on traditional testing methods.
Collaborative sessions addressed technical challenges in packaging and textile applications, with preliminary results indicating steady progress toward environmental and performance targets.
Leitat presented its latest work on PFAS-free treatments for packaging and upholstered textiles. These innovations represent a significant step forward in sustainable materials development. Leitat also introduced upcoming activities in the textile value chain validation phase, alongside continued improvements to its water- and oil-repellent formulations.
The meeting also included a tour of LIST’s laboratories, giving partners the chance to exchange insights in a more informal setting.
