On 9–10 September, partners from across Europe gathered in Zaragoza for the kick-off meeting of RELEASAFE, a new Horizon Europe project funded by the Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking (CBE JU) and coordinated by Aitiip Centro Tecnológico.
The project brings together a consortium of organisations committed to developing more sustainable solutions for agriculture. The consortium is formed by Aitiip Centro Tecnológico, Rodenburg Tony Starch, LANDLAB, EvoEnzyme, HOLOSS, Leitat Technological Center, Van Iperen International, Centro Nacional de Energías Renovables (CENER) – National Renewable Energy Centre, AUSTRALO and Tecnopackaging.
Over the next years, the consortium will work towards developing innovative bio-based and biodegradable controlled-release fertilisers using feedstocks such as lignin, starch derivatives, wood residues and PHAs. The project seeks to reduce nitrogen use, prevent microplastic pollution, cut greenhouse gas emissions and strengthen circular value chains across Europe.
The kick-off meeting in Zaragoza was attended in person by the Leitat members Carlos Andecochea and María Romero, from the Separation and Purification Unit, and Radu Ghemis and Pablo Sánchez, from the Applied Microbiology & Biotechnologies Unit.
During the meeting, consortium partners officially launched the project’s technical activities and established the roadmap for the coming months.
