BATRAW Project Concludes with Its 9th and Final General Assembly in Madrid

On 3 March, the BATRAW consortium gathered in Madrid, Spain, for its 9th and final General Assembly, marking a major milestone as the project reached Month 47 of 48. The meeting offered a key opportunity to consolidate achievements, review final deliverables, and prepare for the project’s closing reports and evaluations.

Key Achievements in Battery Recycling

A central focus of the Assembly was the validation of raw materials and their acceptability for manufacturers. The consortium presented promising results showing that recycled battery materials can achieve performance levels comparable to commercial references. These findings reinforce the technical feasibility of advanced battery recycling and reuse pathways.

Advancing Sustainability

BATRAW also made significant progress in environmental and sustainability assessments, supporting the European Green Deal and circular economy objectives. Comprehensive life cycle assessments (LCAs) were conducted across multiple scenarios, including:

  • Battery repair
  • Second-life applications
  • Recycling with material recovery

These scenarios were benchmarked against conventional recycling routes, such as pyrometallurgy and hydrometallurgy, providing valuable insights into the environmental advantages of BATRAW’s innovative approaches.

Extended Final Event – 4 March

The BATRAW project continued its closing activities on 4 March with two complementary sessions designed to maximize impact and engagement:

Innovation Workshop

An interactive session with external stakeholders to discuss pilot results, innovation outcomes, and pathways for exploitation.

Policy Event

A dedicated forum to foster dialogue on sustainability, circular economy, and battery recycling regulations in Europe, highlighting the project’s relevance for future policy and market development.

Together, these events demonstrated BATRAW’s technical, environmental, and policy contributions, bringing the project to a successful close while supporting Europe’s transition to a more sustainable and circular battery value chain.
